Mosaic ends contract with CTL, 130 jobs at risk

Staff Tampa Bay Business Journal

The contract between Mosaic Co., a fertilizer and phosphate company, and CTL Transportation, a trucking business based in Mulberry, is coming to an end prompting the possible layoff or reassignment of 130 workers.

Richard Straughn, general counsel for CTL, told the Lakeland Ledger that ?Mosaic is making a business change.? The collaboration between the two companies is four decades old, Straughn said.

Dave Townsend, Mosaic?s spokesman, said his company requested new proposals for transportation services in February, the Ledger said. After looking at safety performance, pricing, skills and other criteria, Townsend said Mosaic chose Tampa-based Dillon Transport to sign a new contract scheduled for March 1.

The 130 positions affected by the termination of contract working for CTL include truck drivers and support staff. The employees work in Mulberry and Tampa, the Ledger said. CTL was founded in 1964 and has about 430 employees.
